cosmic bridge continues to move forward with a two-track release featuring the dynamic duo of munich s danny scrilla, an early member of the label s roster, and bristol s sam binga, a close friend and collaborator of the label s founder om unit. created during a weekend session at scrilla s home studio, the release sees this long overdue anglo-german meeting of the future minded go deep into unexpected sonic terrains and fully live up to its title of weird in munich. the trip begins on side a with frolic in brine , a brooding roller that sets up the mood: deep, hypnotic and sweaty. the track unfolds from pulsating synths with a percussive rhythm underpinning a gentle procession of elements including synth arpeggios, languid guitar licks, and echoing sound effects. ignoring dancefloor conventions, frolic in brine instead opts for a minimal approach that delivers a shot of pure body music.

when he proceeded further into the production process, he limited himself using the computer less and instead learning to trust his intuition, the flow of his fingers and to use his own voice as an instrument. this led to an album that is rather hard to pin down genre-wise but even easier to connect to emotionally when you listen to it from start to finish.

emlock founder untold is back on the label with his first vinyl ep since ‘doff’ on sub-label hblk back in 2015. this release follows appearances on last year’s #savefabric compilation, and more recently on ‘magic city iii’ compiled by mixpak boss jubilee. hek029 follows a rewarding period of a&r for hemlock that has so far delivered eps from bruce and parris, with several more scheduled to drop throughout 2017. ep’s two winding tracks are a natural progression from the fiercely textural drum work of untold’s previous singles and album ‘black light spiral.’ here the material is given more space to breathe and released from the grid creating a lighter more footloose feel. ‘tear up the club’ carries the weight of dmz era half-step using a loose web of elasticated breaks and builds to reveal a striking melodic line. on ‘watton res’ exotic tones are further compressed and expanded in sequence, encasing drum machine, keyboards and guitar work within a delicate shell.

italian artist paul santangelo has been having fun messing with the sometimes po-faced traditions of the house music scene through a raft of home made productions on soundcloud, but now with his venetian causeway label hes able to prove the clout to be found in his music. on this 10inch the arch title generic house traxx actually does a disservice to the quality of the music contained within santangelo does a fine job of whipping up monosynth bass and ethereal pads astride an uptempo beat that, while familiar, has an atmosphere with considerable depth to it. please him on the b side goes further out on a mellow electro tip, plaintive leads and aqueous chords flirting with 808-style beats.

returning with four tracks from four upcoming artists, lkr003 explores a variety of styles on the fringes of modern techno, with elements of industrial, noise, atmospheric ambience and clattering breakbeats forming an uncompromising whole.
on the a-side, strahinja arbutina’s brutal four-to-the-floor techno screamer ‘dehumidifier’ rattles the roof, leading into iazikzazubami’s slower, mysteriously murky ‘brmaa’, where visions of dark landscapes are conjured. on the b-side, consulate drags you further deep into the nightclub dungeon with his techno + breaks laden stomper ‘klattenburg’, while the ep is drawn to a determined close with hymns’ ‘map 7’, which gathers the eerie, robotic vibes of the previous cuts, and projects them into an energetic, mechanical climax.
